      It's the texture of water slowly slipping through your fingers. It's lost and can never be held again, at least not the same water.      It sounds like an eerie silence. The sound of being completely alone. It sounds like your own voice echoing against a mountain with no response but your own voice. It is the lack of any sound, the silence of being alone in what was once a loud and busy room.      It looks like a broken, forced smile. The single tear sliding down a cheek before the flood gates open. The look in someone's eyes when you know the comments about being fine are a lie, when the glint of happiness or any joy is gone.    

The first person I loved reminds me of the color green like burning jealousy, or the color brown like dead leaves scattered across the lawn. They remind me of the smell of Frankincense like the incense they burned to cover the smell of pot in their room. They remind me of the taste of ash, dry and bitter.

        Raelynn, Rae to most, sat on her front porch swing listening to the silence of the night. The night was overwhelmingly dark. The moon was full but seemed so far away. The stars were few and far between. The streetlights seemed even dimmer than usual, leaving large and gaping shadows down the road. The darkness let the heartache she had been hiding finally surface. A single tear slid down her cheek as she realized she was truly alone. Her husband was gone. It wasn't just some nightmare to wake up from. She knew that if she walked back into the house and into her bedroom, he wouldn't be there sound asleep like many of her sleepless nigh
